Zyrtec is a medicine that is used against cold and allergy symptoms such as itching, sneezing, runny nose and watery eyes. Zyrtec is also prescribed for preventing hay fever and also in treating itching and swelling caused by chronic urticaria.

Zyrtec has to be taken only according to your prescription. Never deviate from the prescription. Take care that you do not take larger amounts of the drug and also do not take the medicine for longer periods.

The drug can be taken in empty stomach and also with food. Zyrtec is a chewable drug. While taking the drug, you should only chew and not swallow it.

Missed dose/overdose

There is no problem if you miss a dosage of Zyrtec. The missed dose can be used when you remember it. But if it is almost time for your regular dose, leave the missed dose and continue with your remaining medicines. You should never take two medicines of Zyrtec at the same time.

In case you think of having taken an overdose, seek immediate medical attention.

Side effects

Like all medicines, you may have many allergic reactions and also side effects after taking Zyrtec. You have to stop Zyrtec and contact the doctor immediately if you come across swelling (tongue, lips, mouths), hives and breathing problems.

Stop Zyrtec and call your doctor at once if you come across any severe reactions like uneven heartbeats, weakness, restless feeling, tremors, confusion, less urinating, insomnia and problems of the vision.

The less known side effects with Zyrtec include drowsiness, dry mouth, dizziness, cough, nausea, sore throat and headache.

Always store Zyrtec in room temperature, away from heat and moisture. Keep away from children.
